Cameroon’s Cocoa Prices Rebound Late in Season
2026-05-14  Ecofin Agency
Cocoa prices have rebounded across Cameroon ahead of the 2025/2026 marketing season’s closure on July 15. Official data shows the price stood at 1,550 to 1,650 CFA francs ($2.78) per kilogram on May 6, breaking above 1,500 CFA francs after lingering around 1,300 CFA francs in prior weeks.

Despite the recovery, current farmgate prices are far below record levels. Cocoa once peaked at 6,000 CFA francs per kilogram in 2023/2024 and hit 5,400 CFA francs the following season. Encouraged by previous highs, authorities expected prices to range from 3,200 to 5,400 CFA francs this season, yet actual performance has disappointed.

Analysts attributed the gap to an anticipated global cocoa supply expansion. After three straight years of shortages, the ICCO predicts output recovery. The projected surplus is likely to keep suppressing cocoa prices worldwide, including in Cameroon.
