Chinese experts of China-Aid Rwanda Bamboo Team have been undertaking training projects about bamboo cultivation, processing and utilization in Rwanda since 2009. Over 1300 Rwandans have been trained since then.
They also offer technical advices for bamboo plantation, processing and utilization, train Rwandan technicians and provide some necessary teaching equipment, tools and raw materials.
The youths, including Miss Popularity of Rwanda Honorine Hirwa Uwase, toured the bamboo plantation cultivated by the Chinese experts, observing different kinds of bamboos and learning their uses. They then planted 20 bamboos under the guidance of the Chinese experts.
The Chinese bamboo team also guided the youths to visit the bamboo training base located in Masaka Incubation Business Center, where the youths witnessed processing of bamboo products. The Chinese bamboo team have been training Rwandans in making mat, toothpicks, furniture and others out of bamboo.
Honorine, who is also a youth ambassador of International Union for Conservation of Nature, said that the bamboo project undertaken by Chinese also helps employment.
“We are creating awareness on the role of bamboo,” said Janviere Muhayimana, bamboo expert at Rwanda Water and Forestry Authority, during the visit.
“We come to realize that we can boost our economy by using the bamboo,” she said. Enditem
