The industrial parks in Adama and Dire Dawa will be inaugurated after two weeks, while parks in Kilinito and Bole Lemi-II will be inaugurated in February 2018, EIC’s Deputy Commissioner, Belachew Mekuria told ENA.
The Kilinto Industrial Park is specialized in pharmaceuticals, while the Adama, Bole-II and Dire Dawa constructed for textile and apparel production, he added.
The construction of the industrial parks have been finalized within a year, according to the original plan, this displays the country’s commitment to the acceleration of industrial development.
“We are expecting that the Adama and Dire Dawa industrial parks are going to be inaugurated at the end of October. Then Kilinto and Bole Lemi-II Industrial Parks, which we pursue different construction method will be inaugurated at the end of February. We develop the infrastructure such as roads, electricity substation, and water; and facility that would provide one-stop service”, he said.
The parks will have infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water provisions as well as facilities that would provide one-stop services, to ensure provision of multiple government services to companies within the parks’ premises.
Recruiting companies that will enter into the industrial parks has also being processed along with the construction of the parks, he noted.
Ethiopia is accelerating the pace towards realizing its vision of becoming a manufacturing hub in Africa with the development of industrial parks, said Sisay Gemechu, CEO of Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), EIC’s main collaborator.
The development of several industrial parks over the past two years and the construction of other being conducted this year, displayed this fact, he added.
By developing the industrial parks across the country, the country is creating conducive environment for both local and foreign companies and better employment opportunities, Sisay said.
“As the country, we have four industrial parks under operation and others under construction. The idea, the plan is to have almost most of industrial parks under construction would be completed by this year and we are trying to put on in operation on the end of this year, ” he said.
Besides constructing the parks, the government is also working on how to manage their potential impact to the environment in and around the parks, Sisay said.
In this regard, the government has put in place a mechanism in the parks to achieve zero discharge in industrial waste.
The government has planned to construct around 15 industrial parks in the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II) period. Ethiopia has put aside more than one billion USD for the construction of industrial parks during this period.

In addition to the parks that will be inaugurated this fiscal year, industrial parks in Debre Berhan, Ararti and Bahir Dar are being constructed by the government, according to EIC.
Furthermore, industrial parks such as Modjo, Gourge Shoe, Huajian and Eastern industry zone are being developed by the private sector.
