Recently, Tanzanian Finance and Planning Minister of Phillip Mpango visited Kalambo Village in Mtwaara on the border of Tanzania and Mozambique. He was requested the government to establish fruit processing for local investment.
Phillip Mpango met residents of Kalambo Village in Mtwaara where the residents requested the government to help them secure an investor who would built a fruit processing factory in the area.
Dr Mpango was on the tour of duty at Kalambo Customs point where is located on the border between Tanzania and Mozambique.
According to the chairman of the village, Mr Mohamed Mkama, the area has a a lot of fruits that end up rotting due to lack of processing facilities.
"Our neighbors from Mozambique come in large numbers to buy food items from us, but unfortunately we sell the fruits to them in their raw form. we ask you, the Minister for Finance and Planning, to help us get a factory that will processing our commodities here," he said.
In response,Dr Mpango told the villagers that there was a need for detailed research to ascertain the quantity of fruits in the area before the government works on attracting investors.
In addition, Dr Mpango assured that once they calculate the volume of fruits which is enough to sustain processing factories, the government would made efforts to attract investors.
