Alibaba Business School recently launched the “Global E-Commerce Talent – Educator Training” program with the local government of Rwanda, which attracted 50 lecturers from 9 top universities in Rwanda and is expected to cover 2,500 African students.
According to reports, Global E-commerce Talent (GET) programme is tailor-made for Rwandan educators to deepen their understanding of the e-commerce industry and help them better train digital talent to further enhance Rwanda's ability to participate in global competition.
The GET program is part of the commitment that Alibaba Executive Chairman Jack Ma made on his first trip to Africa last year to support education and e-commerce on the continent.
"GET aims to deepen the understanding of the e-commerce industry among Rwandan university teachers, so that they in turn, can train individuals to compete in the digital economy," Alibaba said, adding that fifty lecturers from nine of the country's top universities attended the weeklong program.
GET's introduction in Rwanda follows the launch of the Jack Ma Foundation’s “Netpreneur” prize for African entrepreneurs working to address the continent's most pressing challenges, as well as Alibaba Business School's eFounders Fellowship that will train 200 African entrepreneurs to become catalysts for digital transformation.
Previously, eWTP project has been successively launched in Malaysia, Belgium and other countries.
This training is the first extensive eWTP project in Africa. As the first step in landing Rwanda, eWTP aims to building a local digital economy ecosystem in Africa.
