Approaching the African Halal Cosmetics Market

The term "halal," as it applies to cosmetics,  means a product manufactured and produced using ingredients permitted under Islamic Sharia law.

According to the 2016/17 Islamic National Economic Outlook report, the size of the world halal cosmetics market is expected to rise rapidly from $56 billion in 2015 to $81 billion in 2021.

Due to the growing Muslim population worldwide and the prevalence of vegetarianism, the global halal cosmetics market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6.0% between 2018 and 2026.

According to Amarjit Sahota, founder of Ecovia Intelligence, an organic consultancy in the European Union, some brands now plan to develop certified natural organic halal cosmetics to cater to this growing market.

There are 480 million Muslims in Africa, and the younger generation is gradually becoming a conscious consumer. Their purchasing power only magnifies the demand for the developing halal market, so halal cosmetics have broad prospects in Africa.
