Ghana's current economic development has been greatly contributed by many industries in the country. The success of Ghana’s industrial-listed services and manufacturing has created many jobs, thus minimizing poverty in the country, as many people are able to meet their daily needs. In addition, the presence of different industries in Ghana has attracted international investors, which has had a positive impact on the country’s economic development.
1.Mining industry in Ghana
Ghana is second largest producer of gold in the whole of Africa. The country also produces diamonds, manganese, and bauxite with quite a number of large-scale mining companies that are 23 in total. The registered small-scale mining grounds are approximately above 300. Natural gas, salt, silver, and petroleum are also other minerals produced in Ghana.
The Ghana main large-scale gold mining producers are Asanko gold, Golden Star, AngloGold Ashanti, Endeavor Mining, Goldfields, and Newmont. Ghana has the upcoming gold mining companies (juniors) like Xtra-Gold Resources and Castle minerals.
2.Fishing industry in Ghana
In Ghana, people engage in marine fishery, fresh water fishery (inland) like The Volta Lake, Fishponds, reservoirs, and the coastal lagoons, and lastly aquaculture fishery. They store the fish after preserve them awaiting for marketing as well as distributing. Approximate of 10 % of the people living in Ghana engage in fishing. This means fishing industry greatly contributes to minimizing poverty, generating the country revenue, and sustaining the resources through creating job opportunities to some Ghanaians.
Fish is a reliable source of protein consumed by many Ghanaians. Most of the fish consumed locally by the Ghanaians is from the marine fisheries that is about 80%. The inland and the aquaculture fisheries are also supplying a satisfying share this year, 2018. Four main identifiable groups describes the Ghana fishing activities. The groups are tuna fleets, inshore sector (semi-industrial), Artisanal, and deep sea (industrial). In Ghana, they are both small scale and large-scale subsistence fish farming in Ghana from the aquaculture fisheries. The fish farmers try their very best to earthen ponds and practice their fishing there. Like other sectors, the fisheries are also governed with laws and regulations. The fisheries development is under the Department of Fisheries, Government agency.
3.Oil and Gas industry in Ghana
Oil and gas are among the very important natural resources that the Ghanaian country feels proud of producing hence the many oil and gas companies in Ghana.The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) regulate the Petroleum industry in the country while the Ghana Oil Company administers it.
The natural gas and oil was discovered in Ghana since 1970s; it is believed it has an approximate of 5-7 billion barrels that reserves petroleum.
