Egypt’s non-oil exports increased 11 percent during the first four months of 2021, reaching $9.8 billion, compared to about $8.85 billion during the same period of 2020, according to Minister of Trade and Industry, Nevine Gamea.

Gamea indicated, in a statement, Wednesday, that this increase came despite the current circumstances related to the coronavirus crisis, that the whole world suffers from, thanks to the efforts made by the government to support the productive and export sectors during the crisis, which contributed to the continued rotation of the wheel of production and the preservation of markets Export.

The minister said that Egyptian imports also witnessed a slight increase by 5 percent, reaching $23.13 billion, compared to $21.97 billion during the same period last year.

For his part, Ismail Gaber, Chairman of the General Organization for Export and Import Control, said that the largest sectors that acquired the list of Egyptian exports during the first four months of 2021 included the medical industries sector with a value of $ 236 million, compared to $ 148 million during the same period last year, marking an increase of 60 percent.

"The handicraft sector rose to reach $93 million, compared to $61 million, with an increase of 53 percent, the engineering industries sector marked a value of $969 million, compared to $655 million, with an increase of 48 percent,” he stated, adding that the leather and shoe industry recorded a value of $28 million, compared to $20 million.

The head of the General Organization for Export and Import Control added that there are five countries whose markets account for 30.1 percent of total Egyptian exports, including the United States of America with a value of $676 million, Turkey with a value of $651 million, Saudi Arabia with a value of $633 million, Italy with a value of $586 million, and Malta with a value of $406 million.

On the most important exporting countries to the Egyptian market, Gaber pointed out that there are five countries that accounted for 41.2 percent of the total Egyptian imports abroad, including China with a value of $4.1 billion, the United States with a value of $2.98 billion, Germany with a value of $1.34 billion, and the Russian Federation with a value of $1.12 billion, and Italy  with $877 million.
