Egypt's food industries exports to Senegal hiked 37 percent during the first eight months of 2021 to reach $9.6 million, compared to $7 million during the same period of 2020, according to Executive Director of the Export Council for Food Industries, Mai Khairy.

This came during a seminar organized by the Export Council for Food Industries on Wednesday, under the title "Opportunities for the Development of Food Industry Exports to Senegal".

Khairy added that Senegal occupies the 48th place in the list of the most important importing countries for Egyptian processed foods during 2020; Exports amounted to $15 million.

She pointed out that about 10 commodities, accounting for 99 percent of the total exported products, were exported by "aromatic mixtures", which accounted for 36 percent of the total exports, with a value of $5.2 million, followed by "barley drinks" that accounted for 19 percent, with a value of $2.7 million. In third place are exports of "biscuits and cereal preparations" by 12 percent, with a value of 1.7 million dollars.

Khairy explained that Egypt's exports of "pasta" to Senegal in 2020 amounted to about $1.4 million, accounting for 9 percent of the total exports, followed by "processed tobacco" by 9 percent, with a value of $1.3 million, while "dried onions" ranked sixth in terms of exported commodities which accounted for 5 percent with a value of $700,000, and “dairy and its products” accounted for 4 percent, with a value of $500,000, while “juice” exports accounted for 3 percent of the total exports, with a value of $400,000, followed by exports of “fruit preparations” by about 2 percent, with a value of $300,000, while "starch" exports ranked tenth among the exported commodities, accounting for 1 percent, with a value of $100,000.

Khairy added that the Senegalese market is a promising market, and the Export Council for Food Industries, in cooperation with the Commercial Representation Authority and the concerned authorities, will organize a trade mission next year to hold bilateral meetings between Egyptian companies and their Senegalese counterpart, which will be announced soon.
