A recent study published by the Egyptian Center for Thought and Studies stated that Egypt plans to increase the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources to 42 percent by 2035.
The study, prepared by the researcher Omar Al-Husseini, pointed out that with the increase in global economic difficulties, several countries have adopted rationalization plans with the aim of reducing the amount of damage incurred on their populations.
It further said that Egypt decided to go through several systematic measures to rationalize energy and water consumption, as the Egyptian Prime Minister revealed Mostafa Madbouly, on August 9 of the current year 2022, announced the government’s plan to reduce and rationalize energy and water consumption at the national level amid the global energy crisis.
Prime Minister Madbouly explained that the state's goal in providing the targeted large quantities of gas lies in the importance of obtaining foreign currencies for use in reducing losses resulting from the worsening economic situation in Egypt and the world.
The study indicated that the plan related to energy and electricity consumption, which was activated as of August 11, 2022, including the application of daylight saving time settings in malls that include closing at 11 pm. The plan also includes turning off lights at the government buildings after working hours, as well as the buildings' facades at night.
In addition to this, reducing street and square lighting, as well as adjusting central air conditioners at temperatures above 25 degrees in buildings and commercial complexes. The plan took special measures to reduce the lighting of clubs, stadiums and sports institutions by standardizing the use of energy-saving LED headlights in lighting all stadiums and youth sports clubs.
