Munich-based provider of reusable packaging containers IFCO has announced the opening of its first service hub in Casablanca to support retail partners in importing fresh products from Morocco.
“We are delighted to expand our operations to Morocco, a source of fresh produce of growing importance to our retail partners,” CEO of IFCO Systems Michael Pooley said, adding that the company now supplies the country’s growers and retailers with “more sustainable packaging solutions” and legal guidance.
The service hub, which began operations on October 1, underlines IFCO’s growth strategy as the company seeks to expand its network of service centers in North Africa.
Given that Morocco is a leading exporter of fresh fruits and vegetables to Europe, IFCO seeks to capitalize on the well-established trade routes while introducing eco-friendly packaging solutions.
The company also announced the creation of a legal entity in Morocco, responding to market demand for a pooler that could facilitate administrative procedures for foreign retailers interested in importing Morocco's fresh produce in reusable packaging.
The company added that it “has been engaging with local authorities to streamline procedures for its customers.”
While IFCO is the first packaging firm to provide legal guidance to growers and importers in Morocco, the national packaging market has over the past months attracted the interest of global players such as Hotpack Global.
The UAE-based manufacturer plans to capture 80% of Morocco's packaging sector in partnership with Best Financiers, the investment branch of Retail Holding.
