Morocco became the sixth world’s largest bell peppers exporter in 2022, new data shows.
Agriculture-focused news outlet East Fruit said that Morocco’s bell pepper exports grew by 45% annually over the past five years.
This helped the country emerge as the sixth-largest exporter of bell peppers last year, outperforming several countries – including Turkey.
The news outlet expects another good season this year for bell peppers exports. In the January-March period, Morocco's exports of bell peppers reached 56,000 tonnes.
In terms of loyal markets for Morocco's bell pepper products, Spain and France represent a cumulative share that reached 65% =-- which makes the two countries key importers of Moroccan bell peppers.
“Morocco is also the leading exporter of bell peppers to Spain and ranks second after Spain among the biggest suppliers of France,” the news outlet said.
Other key markets for Moroccan red peppers include Germany and the Netherlands, with Morocco ranking fifth and third in the two countries’ suppliers list, respectively.
African countries similarly import Moroccan bell peppers, with Mauritania being one of the key markets receiving Moroccan goods.
The Mauritanian market received over 11,000 tonnes of Moroccan bell peppers, East Fruit said, noting that Morocco “turned out to be its leading supplier of these vegetables.”
