Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, announced that the ministry has secured five strategic agreements with prominent Chinese companies to launch major projects in Egypt in the near future.
These agreements include the construction of two factories specializing in the production of fiber optic cables, each with a capacity of 3 million core kilometers annually.
The production output will be evenly split between serving the domestic market and exporting to neighboring regions.
In addition to these manufacturing projects, three agreements were signed with Chinese companies aimed at establishing and expanding outsourcing centers across Egypt. During a press conference held at the Global Digital Public Infrastructure Summit (DPI), Talaat emphasized that the goal of fostering a local fiber optic cable industry is to replace copper cables to improve service quality for citizens and support Egypt's digital transformation strategy.
One of the agreements was signed with Huawei to expand an existing outsourcing center, which currently employs 800 specialists.
The center aims to double its workforce within the next two years. The second outsourcing agreement is with Tsinghua Unigroup, a prominent company in telecommunications and IT.
This partnership will establish a new outsourcing center focused on designing electrical circuits and semiconductors, areas considered high-value specializations.
Another agreement with Tsinghua Unigroup involves creating an investment fund with an initial capital of $300 million, predominantly financed by the Chinese company (over 80% percent) in collaboration with Egyptian investors.
