UNIDO expands efforts in Egypt with 23 projects valued at $58 Million

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) currently oversees 23 projects in Egypt, backed by a total investment of $58 million.

This was discussed in a meeting between Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, and UNIDO’s regional representative, Patrick Jean Gilabert.

The projects focus on providing technical support to local industries across various sectors. Minister Al-Wazir highlighted the government’s emphasis on utilizing renewable energy sources efficiently to meet Egypt’s energy demands. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between UNIDO and the ministry’s technological centers to enhance local production capabilities in solar and wind energy technologies.

Key areas of cooperation include wastewater treatment, industrial water management, seawater desalination, and the manufacturing of water desalination and pumping motors. The Egyptian government is actively seeking foreign investments in these sectors to fulfill local market needs and boost exports.

Patrick Jean Gilabert also noted UNIDO’s intention to establish a technology development office in Egypt, similar to those it has set up in other countries.
