The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the launch of an integrated drilling program that will see 11 new natural gas wells developed across the country.
This ambitious initiative is expected to contribute approximately 160 billion cubic feet of natural gas, alongside an increase in daily production of around 100 million cubic feet of gas and 2,000 barrels of condensates.
This step reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic energy production, particularly in key regions such as the onshore Nile Delta, with the goal of ensuring greater stability for the national gas network and meeting growing energy demands.
As part of this initiative, Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi recently visited the “Begonia-2” well site in Dakahlia Governorate, located within the “New Manzala” concession area operated by Wasco Petroleum in partnership with Dana Gas.
During the visit, the minister inspected the progress of drilling operations and was briefed on the latest developments and technical updates.
The “Begonia-2” well plays a strategic role as an appraisal well in the Begonia development zone. It focuses on evaluating gas reserves in the Abu Madi Formation within the Miocene geological layer.
Preliminary studies estimate the presence of a gas reservoir with a capacity of up to 9 billion cubic feet—an important addition that will fuel future development plans and further enhance Egypt’s domestic gas output.
This drilling campaign aligns with Egypt’s broader energy strategy aimed at diversifying and securing its natural gas supply.
It highlights the government’s dedication to maintaining energy security, reducing reliance on imports, and expanding local production capacity.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its continuous supervision of work programs carried out by its subsidiaries, ensuring optimal utilization of resources through strong collaboration with both national and international partners.
These efforts are further supported by incentive schemes introduced to encourage increased oil and gas production, helping to solidify Egypt’s position in the global energy market while propelling economic growth and development.
