Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Toshimitsu Imai, President, CEO, and Board Member of Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Corporation, to discuss expanding avenues of cooperation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of his participation—on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan.

Madbouly welcomed Toyota Tsusho’s long-standing partnership with Egypt, which spans nearly 93 years, and praised its contributions to key sectors including renewable energy, healthcare, food supplies, and automotive manufacturing. He encouraged the company to boost its investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, highlighting the attractive incentives offered to investors and Egypt’s membership in multiple international trade blocs, which ensure wide market access. He also expressed his keenness to accelerate the finalization of a memorandum on technical education in coordination with JICA and the Japanese Embassy in Cairo.

For his part, Imai reviewed Toyota Tsusho’s current projects in Egypt, including Toyota Motor’s investments in vehicle assembly and the operation of the RoRo terminal at East Port Said Port as part of an international consortium. He outlined the group’s renewable energy ventures, such as wind power projects in Ras Ghareb (5 MW) and the Red Sea (650 MW), and pointed to its role in supporting healthcare through medical equipment supply and vaccine transportation.

He further noted the memorandum of understanding signed with Egypt’s Ministries of Industry and Investment to strengthen cooperation in the automotive sector, localize manufacturing, and develop domestic component production. Imai also highlighted the company’s expanding footprint across Africa in transport, green infrastructure, and healthcare, underscoring that one-third of Toyota Tsusho’s global workforce is based on the continent.
