President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that the sodium carbonate (soda ash) project is considered one of the strategic projects of significant importance to Egypt as he met with Chairman of the China National Chemical Engineering Corporation (CNCEC) Mo Dingge on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, as well as Vice Chairman of the CNCEC Group Wu Xiangong and Chairman of TCC Company Guo Guihe. Sisi highlighted the pivotal role of this project in supporting self-sufficiency for local industries and reducing imports.
The president expressed his confidence in TCC’s ability to execute the project with high efficiency in accordance with the highest international standards. He expressed appreciation for the existing cooperation with the CNCEC Group, emphasizing that the Egyptian state will work to facilitate the procedures for implementing the company’s project in Egypt for producing the soda ash.
Egypt is placing increasing importance on soda ash, a key raw material used in a wide range of industries, including glass, detergents, paper, food, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
This initiative forms part of the ongoing Egyptian efforts to localize production and reduce import expenditures. In August, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum unveiled the signing of a principles agreement to finance the Egyptian Soda Ash Company project, one of the initiatives under the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company, with a consortium of national and regional financial institutions.
The project, with a total financing package of $490 million, aims to produce 600,000 tons of soda ash and its derivatives annually at the industrial zone in New El-Alamein.
