The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources recently announced a series of significant oil and natural gas discoveries in Egypt's Western Desert and Nile Delta during October 2025, contributing over 5,000 barrels of crude oil and 42 million cubic feet of gas per day to the country’s production.
For the first time in two years, the Nile Delta region witnessed two new natural gas finds. The first, made by Harbour Energy (UK) through Desouq Petroleum Company, followed the drilling of the North Sidi Ghazi 9-1 well.
The second, achieved by Dana Gas (UAE) via El Wastani Petroleum Company, was made in the West Qantara area through the Salma Delta-6 well, with an output of 19 million cubic feet of gas per day. Both discoveries are now being integrated into Egypt’s national gas production network.
In the Western Desert, Khalda Petroleum Company made multiple discoveries, including the recent SHAI-3X and WD 33J-1X, which have been added to Egypt’s production map. These discoveries are expected to generate over 3,550 barrels of crude oil and 23 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Additionally, Agiba Petroleum Company unveiled the Dorra-44 discovery, producing more than 500 barrels per day, while the General Petroleum Company reported the GPU-1X discovery in Abu Sennan, now contributing 350 barrels per day. Petrosanan Petroleum Company also made a new find in the East Alam El Shawish area of the Western Desert, where the HG34/1 D-1X well has been linked to production at 1,000 barrels per day.
In a related move, PetroBaker Petroleum and Cheiron announced three additional discoveries across the Eastern Desert, South Ghazalat, and North Um Baraka regions of the Western Desert, with further testing and evaluation of reserves underway.
These recent discoveries in the Western Desert are notable for tapping into deeper geological layers, signaling a strong push for exploring untapped reserves. The ministry also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence technologies, which played a crucial role in the success of these wells.
From July to October 2025, Egypt recorded 18 new oil and gas discoveries, 13 of which have already been integrated into production.
Together, these discoveries are expected to add a daily output of 14,000 barrels of oil and condensates along with 44 million cubic feet of gas, significantly reducing the country’s import bill and strengthening its energy security.
