On Thursday, 23 April 2026, in Komiguéa, N’Dali Commune, Gaston Cossi DOSSOUHOUI, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, officially launched the 2026‑2027 agricultural campaign. Under the theme “Competitiveness and sustainability of agricultural production systems in the Beninese context: challenges and prospects for establishing a social protection system for stakeholders in agricultural value chains”, the season focuses on the cashew sector while boosting diversification and resilience within the agricultural sector.
The Minister outlined the production targets for the season. Cereal output is projected to rise by 16% to 3.4 million tonnes, while root and tuber crops will reach 9.46 million tonnes, an increase of 17%. Leguminous production is expected to grow by 7% to 1.322 million tonnes, including 770 000 tonnes of soybeans. Leafy vegetables and fruit‑bearing vegetables will increase by 46% and 12% respectively.
Industrial crops also stand at the core of the strategy. Cotton output is targeted at 700 000 tonnes, pineapples at 500 000 tonnes and cashews at 250 000 tonnes, representing growth rates of 20%, 2.7% and 12% respectively. Livestock and fisheries production will follow suit, with meat output up 8%, eggs 14% and fishery products 4%. These targets rely on key drivers: improved access to agricultural inputs, high‑yield seed varieties, mechanisation, water management, enhanced agricultural extension services, and renewed sector‑wide governance.
Jean KPÉTÉRÉ, representative of the President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, welcomed the campaign, stating it should consolidate achievements, foster innovation and build collective responsibility. Saka Méré DAOUDA, Mayor of N’Dali, noted that over 80% of the local population depends on agriculture and praised the selection of the commune as the launch venue.
The ceremony concluded with the handover of performance‑based contracts to heads of decentralised agricultural bodies, symbolising commitment to the operational roll‑out of the campaign.
Following a draw, the Mono Department was chosen to host the launch of the 2027‑2028 agricultural campaign, demonstrating policy continuity and the Beninese Government’s commitment to modernising and securing domestic agricultural production.
