This announcement was made at a coordination meeting co-chaired by Mr. Cherdoud and Mr. Djamel Guidoum, Deputy CEO of the Iris Group. The gathering brought together managers from both companies as well as representatives of professional unions for taxi drivers and passenger and goods transporters.
The meeting formed part of ongoing follow-up on the implementation of signed agreements, a review of how the sector’s professionals’ concerns are being addressed, and efforts to strengthen consultation and coordination mechanisms with a view to upgrading services for transporters.
According to the Naftal statement, Mr. Cherdoud clarified that importing this volume of tires aims to guarantee sufficient stock and meet rising national demand, thereby putting an end to the previously observed tire shortage.
He also announced an expansion of the tire distribution network via the opening of 220 new pickup points across all wilayas. These outlets will serve customers who purchase tires through the digital platform e-mahata.naftal.dz. Alongside existing authorized distribution hubs, the new facilities will boost daily distribution capacity to 6,000 tires. The move is intended to deliver more accessible services to citizens and streamline supply nationwide, the source added.
The CEO further stressed that the meeting with transport stakeholders marked an important milestone for assessing Naftal’s partnership framework with professional unions. It seeks to address their concerns and solidify consultation channels, with regular sessions reflecting the company’s commitment to maintaining continuous, constructive dialogue with its partners.
Mr. Cherdoud went on to state that Naftal attaches great strategic importance to its commercial ties with Iris, given the group’s role in supplying tires to the domestic market. He confirmed that both firms are committed to deepening their cooperation to stabilize the national market and satisfy transport operators’ requirements. A joint working group will be set up to monitor compliance with agreements, align joint initiatives, and propose measures to strengthen this public-private partnership and deliver shared targets.
For his part, Mr. Guidoum reaffirmed Iris’s commitment to raising the tire quota allocated to Naftal for transport professionals and taxi drivers to cover growing demand. He emphasized that ongoing cross-party coordination will target price speculation and unlawful trading practices, ensuring transparent, regulated supply across the national market.
Union representatives praised the quality of cooperation with Naftal. Sid Ali Ait El-Hocine, Secretary General of the National Taxi Drivers’ Union, commended the company’s efforts to cater to transport operators’ needs, noting that it had processed more than 4,000 orders over the past three months. Mohamed Bilal, President of the National Transporters Union, similarly lauded Naftal’s responsiveness.
The statement concluded that the meeting also included a review of joint cooperation outcomes and a discussion of various concerns and proposals raised by union delegates. Attendees underscored the value of sustained regular dialogue and consultation to evolve and tailor services to the transport sector’s requirements, through an inclusive approach built on mutual trust, commitment and shared accountability.
