China Embassy Expresses its Appreciation to TSN

China Embassy Expresses its Appreciation to TSN

By Bernard Lugongo

Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited is a print media house owned by the Government of Tanzania. It publishes the Leading National Newspapers namely DAILY NEWS, Sunday News, HABARILEO, HABARILEO Jumapili and SPOTI Leo. The Embassy of the People's Republic of China has expressed its appreciation to Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN), saying the company has been 'very supportive' to promoting cooperation between the Far- East country and Tanzania.

Minister-Counsellor Gou Haodong said yesterday that TSN, which publishes the 'Daily News', 'Sunday News', 'Habari Leo', 'Habari- Leo Jumapili' and Spoti Leo, has played significant role in enhancing good cooperation by regularly publishing positive articles regarding the relations between the two countries.

He said, for example, that the publication of a series of stories on the role of the Tanzania Zambia Railway (TAZARA) had enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

"We should create such media platforms that would enable everyone to know about the past so that such history shouldn't just pass," he said when he visited the TSN headquarters in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

During his visit, he held talks with the company's management, led by the Managing Editor, Dr Jim Yonazi, with whom they discussed a number of issues focusing on strengthening cooperation between the company and the Chinese Embassy, which would result into stronger ties between the two countries.

Mr Gou noted that they (China) are doing the same in spreading knowledge about Tanzania's development role and vision of Tanzania's first President, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.

On this note, he explained that his country finalised work on a major task to compile and translate Mwalimu Nyerere's famous speeches in Chinese to enable the people in China to understand their content.

The Chinese Embassy official handed over two Mwalimu Nyerere's books translated into Chinese -- 'Uhuru na Umoja" (Freedom and Unity) and 'Uhuru na Ujamaa' (Freedom and Socialism)

"These books have a big circulation in China, helping us to also learn from Nyerere's legacy," he said. On the other hand, Mr Gou informed the TSN management that at the end of this month, a delegation of Chinese journalists would visit Tanzania for a tour in which they will interview government leaders on the Sino-Tanzania cooperation.

Dr Yonazi said that TSN was "very committed to strengthening cooperation between the two countries". He appreciated China's support to TSN.
