Bank Tanzania Limited provided 75 children suffering from hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida medical condition at Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) with free medical insurance coverage to help them get the expensive surgical treatment they need.
The bank’s Head of Collections and Recoveries, Khatibu Mohammedy said the bank’s insurance coverage would be through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and added they would pay all the costs pertaining to the insurance coverage.
“To treat children with hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida medical condition requires surgical intervention which is costly for most of the families in Tanzania. Barclays has decided to offer 75 children affected with this condition access to free medical insurance coverage through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
Barclays will pay for all the costs pertaining to the insurance coverage,” he said in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
He further said the bank, through its employees had also decided to donate blood for the blood bank of the hospital, provide five hydrocephalus shunt machines and supply one wheel chair.
Furthermore, the bank plans to finance a camp for Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida Medical Specialist at MOI and other medical assistance to operate on 30 children affected with this condition,” he said.
The shortage of functional medical equipment is a critical barrier to tackling this condition. Lack of quality medical equipment or poor state of medical equipment is a key challenge many hospitals face in delivering services,anyway they are trying hard to solve this problem.
