Businessmen in Cameroon have urged the Government to reduce the amount of taxes levied on their businesses as part of the moves to ameliorate the business climate in the country badly affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
They expressed the desire this Thursday October 22 at the 11th session of the Cameroon Business Forum that took place in Yaounde chaired by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.
Some of them disclosed that the COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on their businesses and that the current taxation policy is not facilitating a quick recovery.
“We have not done businesses for a while and we need to send some of our workers at home…” “I had to shut everything down making things very difficult for me and my family to earn a living…” “My sales people opened the shop every day and returned home with nothing, that how the business crumbled…” Those are some of the reactions of affected businessmen sampled by CRTV reporters.
They thus pleaded with the Government to see into reducing the amount of taxes paid so as to enable them bounce back with their businesses.
The COVID-19 pandemic have unarguably had tremendous effects on the business climate with the private sector being one of the most hard-hit.
Discussions at this 11th session of the Cameroon Business Forum Centred on how to cushion these effects to ensure a better climate.
