Egypt's Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tarek el Molla witnessed on Wednesday the signing of 16 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements between the petroleum sector and a number of international companies.

The deals were made within the framework of expanding partnerships, providing new opportunities to the Egyptian petroleum sector companies, supporting digital transformation activities, realizing environmental sustainability and cutting carbon emissions.

This came at the final day of the Egyptian Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2023).

Waste management to convert it into sustainable jet fuel

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Shell signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to assess the management of waste to convert it into sustainable jet fuel.

The MoU aims to assess the available quantities of agricultural residues resulting from marine and solid activities, carbon dioxide from some industries, and low-carbon hydrogen in order to convert them into low-carbon fuels and sustainable biofuels.

The infrastructure, technology and pathways available for the production of sustainable biofuels for aviation will be assessed.

In addition, the MoU includes setting a roadmap for available production options and a general framework for policies related to the production of low-carbon fuels and sustainable biofuels in Egypt.

Aviation fuel supply

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) signed a contract with the Saudi Energy Company, APSCO, for the sale of civil jet fuel at Cairo International Airport.

This comes in light of the permanent efforts of the petroleum sector to attract new investments, as APSCO is one of the leading companies in the world and the Kingdom in the supply of aviation fuel and lubricants.

Occupational health and environmental protection on drilling rigs

The EGPC also signed a MoU with the Chinese company CCDC Middle East, a subsidiary of the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation, to apply modern systems for managing occupational safety and health and environmental protection on drilling rigs.

Furthermore, the EGPC signed a MoU with DNV Company for cooperation in the field of sustainability in its economic, environmental and social dimensions.

A framework agreement was also signed between the EGPC and Cisco to support digital transformation projects, provide the latest solutions and programs, and provide technical support.  It aims to secure and protect the infrastructure of the petroleum sector.
