Funding for irrigation projects!
The Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests announced Friday that two irrigation projects received a grant of 51.51 million euros from the Green Fund For the climate (FVC) in addition to two loans. The first is granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), it is worth 120 million euros. The second loan comes from the French Development Agency (AFD) and is estimated at 41 million euros.
To this end, the ministry said that the funding received from the FVC was approved Thursday at its board of directors in Songdo, South Korea. This funding is intended for the Boudnib hydroelectric development project associated with the Kaddoussa dam on Oued Guir and the project to safeguard the irrigated plain of the Saiss and ensure among other things the safeguarding of the groundwater table of the Saiss.
The Ministry specifies that the project to safeguard the plain of Saiss will provide a regularized supply of irrigation water from the surface (dam M'dez) in order to substitute a large part of the samples for agricultural use. The same source indicates that the cost of the project amounts to 4.8 billion dirhams. The latter will receive € 120 million in funding from the EBRD and a contribution from the FVC in the form of a grant of € 31.5 million. Similarly, the Boudnib perimeter hydroelectric development project associated with the Kaddoussa dam on Oued Guir mainly targets the adaptation of oasis agriculture to climate change in the region of Meknes-Tafilalet, through the establishment Management of an irrigation network.
The Ministry has indicated in this connection that the amount of this project amounts to MAD 836 million with a contribution from the FVC in the form of a grant of € 20 million and an AFD loan amounting to 41 million euros. These various funding projects will have positive economic and social benefits, according to the ministry. Similarly, the two initiatives will produce effects of significant environmental impact, particularly in terms of mitigating the effects of climate change on the Boudnib perimeter associated with the Kaddoussa dam and the protection of the groundwater at the level of the Saiss plain. Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes that the implementation of these projects is based on a public-private partnership approach and that particular attention will be given to such aspects as gender, farmer training and ownership Investments made by the beneficiaries under the project.
