OCP Africa announced today a partnership with Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to launch soil mapping exercises for over 100 participants.
The project aims to achieve enhanced fertilizer customization for the participants, the company said in a statement.
Fertilizer and soil customization has become one of the most important pillars of OCP Africa’s strategy in recent years, allowing the company to produce better results for its partners across the continent.
In various conferences and events held throughout the year, Morocco’s phosphates giant emphasized the importance of the practice in their business strategy in a bid to maximize the effectiveness of its product, rather than just shipping greater quantities.
OCP’s customization strategy focuses on supplying each farmer with the right type and amount of fertilizer for their specific soil and their specific needs.
“It’s not just about bringing more fertilizer out there,” OCP Group’s Executive VP of Performance Management Nada El Majdoub said in September. “It’s about making sure every single actor uses them wisely.”
Kenya received its first batches of Moroccan fertilizers in September of this year, lowering the price of fertilizers for farmers who had been suffering from a global shortage in fertilizers.
OCP has managed to take advantage of the global shortage caused by the disruption in Russian and Ukrainian exports, planting a firm foothold in Africa and becoming one of the continent’s top producers.
The group reported over $5 billion (MAD 52 billion) in revenues in the first half of 2022, and forecasts predict that demand for Moroccan fertilizers will continue to increase in 2023 as the global shortage continues.
